Please join the City of Southmayd in welcoming Alan Meek as the Southmayd Fire Chief!!
Alan was born and raised in Whitesboro, Texas, where he and his wife Amanda, of 24 years have lived and raised their two children Bailey and Weston. During his downtime he enjoys spending time with family, especially his beautiful 18-month-old granddaughter Case, and traveling to Kansas to watch his son play football at Sterling College. And then, in his other spare time he likes to go hunting.
He has served with the Whitesboro Fire Department for over 23 years, where he began his career as a volunteer firefighter and currently serves as a Captain in the Operations Division. He is a graduate of the HazCo Fire Academy and received his fire certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. He is also a graduate of the Grayson College EMT Program and is a certified EMT with the Texas Department of State Health Services. In 2023, he was selected as a Best of Texoma Firefighter.
Alan also holds numerous certifications related to Fire Service including Intermediate Firefighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Driver/Operator-Pumper, just to name a few.
Throughout his career in fire service, he has gained experience in personnel development, emergency response operations involving fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials incidents, and public safety emergencies. Alan has also assisted in firefighter training and participated in recruitment, retention, and mentoring efforts. During his time with Whitesboro Fire Department, he has built strong relationships with other fire departments and personnel in Grayson County demonstrating the importance of communication and collaboration.
Alan’s professionalism, leadership experience, knowledge and dedication to the importance of teamwork will contribute to the long-term success of the fire department to ensure that it becomes one of the most professional and recognizable departments in the county.
